Privacy notice
This is the plain version. WASL is run by Asif Ebrahim t/a WASL, Scraptoft, Leicester, England. The public door is https://joinwasl.co.uk. The legal name sits on this notice — not on the door. We are the controller under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Where your data goes
Short answer: into WASL’s own membership database. Not into ads. Not onto a public feed. Not sold.
Your profile, live photo, letters, wali name, and plan sit in WASL’s Postgres database. When the site is live that database is Neon (hosted Postgres). It should be pinned to a UK or EU region (London or Frankfurt) so the records stay in the UK/EEA. In this preview, data lives only on the preview server and is wiped when the preview restarts.
Sign-in. Email accounts store a hashed password — never the password itself. Google or X send us only your name and email. We do not get your contacts, posts, or photos from them.
Your live photo is stored with your profile in that same database (not a public image host). Free and House members cannot see another person’s face until a letter is accepted.
Payments. When Apple Pay or card is connected, the card company (Stripe or similar) sees the card. WASL keeps the amount, the method, and the last four digits — never the full number.
We do not run advertising pixels. We do not share lists with marketers. We do not send your face to other companies.
What we hold
Name, date of birth (to prove 18+), city, country, deen details, profession, letters, live-locked portrait, wali name if you name one, membership tier, and payment records. Faith and that you are looking for nikah is sensitive data under UK law. We only keep it because you ticked yes at join, and so matching stays honest.
Who sees a face
House and Free see a veil until a letter is accepted. Gold and Private see locked portraits at the table. Accepted letters unveil both ways. We never show a face to the same gender.
Your rights
You can download or delete everything in Settings. You can also write to asifvebrahim@gmail.com. We answer within 30 days. You may complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).
How long we keep it
Profiles live while the membership is open. Declined letters are kept 12 months for safety, then erased. Payment records are kept 6 years for UK tax. Reports are kept 24 months.
